Underground Access

Go beneath the arena to explore the ancient tunnels and chambers where animals and fighters prepared for battle.
Due to limited availability, early booking is essential.


Roman Forum & Palatine Hill

Included with all entries.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the opening days and hours?

The Colosseum is open daily from 8:30AM until 4:30PM, with last entry one hour before closing.
It remains closed on December 25 and January 1.


Is there free access on the first Sunday of each month?

Yes. The Archaeological Park of the Colosseum participates in this initiative.
Free entrances are distributed directly at the ticket offices, in order of arrival.
Even Roma Pass and Membership Card holders must collect their free entry on-site.


How can I book the free entrance for the first Sunday?

Free entrances cannot be booked online. They are available only in person on the same day and are valid exclusively for that date.


Do I need to print the confirmation I received online?

No printing is necessary. Showing the confirmation or QR code on your smartphone is enough for entry.


Can I enter at a different time from the one booked?

No, entry is allowed only during the reserved time slot. Late arrivals may result in denied access.


How long can I stay inside the Colosseum?

Depending on the type of access, the visit usually lasts between 75 and 90 minutes.

Within 24 hours, You can enter the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill before or after your entrance at the colosseum.


Are there any areas currently closed to the public?

The Domus Transitoria is temporarily closed. Updates about reopening will be published on official channels and social media.


How large can a group be?

Groups can include up to 25 participants, guide included.
For groups of 9 or more, whisper audio systems are required.


Can I bring a small dog?

Small dogs (5–10 kg) may enter the open-air areas of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, provided they are in a carrier.
Access to the Colosseum, Domus Aurea, and enclosed areas is not permitted.
There is no additional fee for dogs.
Therapy and assistance dogs are welcome with appropriate documentation.
